Kiln Furniture Kits include kiln shelves and posts and are a good starter kit for a new kiln purchase. This kit will allow your ware to be fired on shelves that are separated by posts so you can fire multiple layers of pieces in your kiln. It is a good practice to coat the shelves with kiln wash, which prevents glaze from sticking to the shelves. This kit is designed for ten sided top loading kilns with a firing chamber that is 23 inches in diameter and is 18 inches deep.

The components of the kit are made by Trend Refractories and are made from Cordierite and Mullite. These are ceramic minerals formed at high temperature by the reaction of silica, alumina and magnesia. Cordierite has a low thermal expansion, which minimizes the risk of thermal-shock during rapid heating and cooling. Mullite has good strength at high temperatures, which imparts resistance to bending and breaking under load. Cordierite Mullite refractories are formulated to optimize the balance of these properties. This kit includes:
6 - 21" x 3/4" half round kiln shelves
6 each of 1", 2", 4" and 6" post that are 1-3/4" wide.

Ware is fired on shelves that are separated by posts so you can fire multiple layers of ware in your kiln. Coat the shelves with kiln wash, which prevents glaze or glass from sticking to the shelves.
