HISTORY

The Sounding Stone was founded in 1972 by Al Pauls and his wife Judith. Initially, it was a studio at 555 Osborne Street where Al taught many eager students how to throw on the pottery wheel. A common question that came from students was 'where do I buy supplies?' Al saw an opportunity and his brother John joined him in starting the business of selling pottery supplies. Judith took the role of shop keeper and sold Al's handmade pottery and introduced many other giftware product lines to make the store a one-stop giftware store. John left to pursue other endeavors and a brother in-law Reg, followed by Vern, took care of managing the business. After 14 years of consistent growth, the business needed more space and moved down the street to 519 Osborne.

In the new location, Al's son Grant joined the business. Al continued to specialize in producing functionally pottery and was also commissioned to produce several art installations throughout Manitoba. Judith took the giftware store to new levels and The Sounding Stone became a household name.

In 2010, Al and Judith made the decision to retire which brought an end to the giftware store and an opportunity to expand the pottery supply side. The Sounding Stone sought a new location and moved to its present location at 104 Trottier Bay. This allowed for warehousing, retail and wholesale divisions to all come together in one location.

We take great pride in serving our customers and bringing you what we believe are the best products that the ceramics and pottery industry has to offer. We are a full service outlet with licensed service technicians and an extensive parts inventory to repair all brands of equipment that we sell. We do make house calls or we'll help you troubleshoot your own repair.

We recognize that each customer is unique and we'll earn your business with our honesty and integrity.
